Why UHY Hacker Young?

I applied to the Birmingham office because I wanted to work in an office which was small enough to get to know everyone throughout the office but that was also large enough to give me a diverse range of experiences, as you would expect from a top 15 firm. I was also fascinated by the diverse range of clients within the Public and Private sector.

I have now been with the firm for 6 months, and have found both the practical and theoretical experiences varied and engaging. I am really looking forward to the challenges that will arise in the next few years both in the day to day work and whilst studying towards my professional qualification.

What training is provided?

During my first few weeks, I completed small bookkeeping tasks in order to build up my knowledge and I also attended a bookkeeping course to expand my knowledge and strengthen my understanding. Progressively, I worked up to accounts work for partnerships and sole traders before moving onto limited companies. Since then I have worked in a variety of different areas ranging from audits of academy school to monthly reporting for clients. At the same time I have been attending college and taking my examinations towards a professional qualification, which have also aided my work within the office.

What does your job entail?

I mainly work within the office on commercial accounting to a variety of different clients from various fields and of varying sizes. Additional work I have done outside the office includes accounts and audit work for academy school, a stock take, an SRA review for a firm of solicitors and attending a marketing event in order to try and attract new clients to the business.

I have found all of this beneficial to my understanding and have really enjoyed the various different pieces of work which I have undertaken. I feel I have experienced a range of different work cases with a variety of clients which has broadened my understanding of the accountancy profession.
